Setups

I can give you perfect setups on basses (fretless and fretted) and guitars (electric and acoustic). Over the years I've come across all sorts of obscure problems and defects and developed techniques to deal with them.

Customers regularly tell me their instruments have never played as well - many stock instruments have great potential but come poorly set up from new.

Some of my customers bring me new instruments to check and set up even before playing them, just so as to be sure they're at their best right from the start.

Pickups and active electronics

I can discuss and advise on a range of active electronics and can retro-fit pickups to help you achieve the sound you want. I have a detailed knowledge of older pickups and wiring systems as well as newer developments.

Finishing

I can finish your newly built instrument or re-finish your older one to the highest standards.

Maple fingerboards become scruffy and stained. I can give you an immaculate lacquered fretboard that will stay perfect and stand the test of time.

Custom builds

I can re-create the magic of classic Fender instruments in a custom build that includes your individual specifications, such as neck dimensions and profile, body material, hardware, pickups, electronics and finish.

Repairs and re-frets

If a seriously damaged instrument is important to you, I can rebuild instruments you might have thought completely un-repairable.

I also undertake more routine repairs - refrets, worn nuts, minor damage, sorting pickup wiring problems and touch spraying.

Every job is unique and receives my concentrated attention. So I price each job individually - I give you a quote when I examine your instrument and assess the work required.
